Kelmscott GL7 3HJ, England

URPoint Details

A late 16th century Manor House with gardens reaching down to the River Thames and best known for its association with William Morris who lived there from 1871 to 1896.
It has had few other alterations and retains most of its original timberwork and stone fireplaces. Some renovations took place in the mid 1960's and ownership by the Society of Antiquaries brought about a permanent exhibition of William Morris' work.
The range reflects his talents as artist, writer and designer, including paintings, furniture, tapestries and wallpaper designs. Paintings by his sometime joint tenant Daniel Gabriel Rossetti, tapestries from Brussels and woodblock prints by Albrecht Durer.
