This lovely early 18th century Palladian style house was designed by James Gibbs and built by Francis Smith of Warwick between 1728 and 1732. Constructed originally for the Hanbury family, it has been in the possession of the Lancasters since the early Part of this century. Set in a large park with its herd of British White cattle and overlooking a lake, the house is surrounded by beautiful gardens. Kelmarsh Hall has associations with Nancy Lancaster, the well known interior designer and one of the features of the house is the Chinese Room with its 250 year old hand painted Chinese wallpaper another is the important collection of Japanese Imari porcelain.
