URPoint Details
A lovely greystone village round which the fells crowd steep and close, and opposite the Post Office is a footpath which joins the Pennine Way.
South eastwards the Way follows the Swale through limestone cliffs, running alongside cataracts such as Kisdon Force where the water pours in a never-ending roar.
After 3 miles the road can be rejoined at Thwaite or Muker. Half a mile northwest of Keld a moorland lane leads for 4 miles to Tan Hill Inn one of England’s highest 1732ft and loneliest inns, near a disused coal mine in the heather.
Here once more the lane crosses the Pennine Way.
