The birthplace of John Muir, founding figure of the worldwide conservation movement. He was born in 1838, in the top flat of this house, and on the ground floor his father ran a business. His boyhood was spent in Dunbar until his family emigrated in 1849 to America.
The flat has been furnished in period style to give the impression of the circumstances in which the family lived, without gas or running water.
