Jane Austen was born at the rectory in Steventon on 16 December 1775
She lived her entire life as part of a close-knit family, and became a famous English novelist writing romantic fiction about the landed gentry. She wrote Pride and Prejudice in 1813.
She died on 18 July 1817 (aged 41) in Winchester and is buried in Winchester Cathedral.
