James I, (House of Stuart)

James I, (House of Stuart) born 19 June 1566 in Edinburgh Castle, was the first Stuart king of England, son of Mary Queen of Scots. He became James VI of Scotland in 1567 when his mother Mary, Queen of Scots, gave up the throne. When his cousin Elizabeth I died he became James I of England in 1603, and ruled until his death on 27 March 1625(aged 58). His son Charles I succeeded him.
