URPoint Details
Halewood, a former Ford Motor Company factory that once made Escorts, has been a Jaguar Body and Assembly Facility since 2001, when it geared up to produce Jaguar's first compact saloon for three decades, the X-Type. The site was built in 1963.
Halewood has been known as a joint Jaguar Land Rover facility since 2005, including a Press Shop, Body In White Assembly, Paint Shop, Trim and Final Assembly for the Freelander 2 model.
It is still a Body In White assembly and Paint facility for the Jaguar X-Type, and has remained so far longer than anticipated as, when Ford determined to close the model in about 2005, it suddenly found new favour and new markets, and was too lucrative to kill off. The X-Type is due to be superseded by a new design in 2011/12.
The site has approximately 2,000 employees in 300 acres of manufacturing space
