The 14th century St George's Church is mainly in the Decorated style and is almost monastic in appearance is a large and unusually long grey building of lichen-covered stone situated alongside an inn and weatherboarded cottages. It has a beacon turret on its 70 ft tower to watch for invaders and a large stone porch with upper storey and battlemented top. Stone seating on the south wall was for the aged and infirm before the days of pews, hence the expression “let the weakest go to the wall”.
