URPoint Details
An island to the northeast of the Island of Islay and separated from Argyllshire by the Sound of Jura. The island is 30 miles long by 7 miles wide with spectacular mountain views and is almost cut in half by Loch Tarbert.
At the north end the island is separated from Scarpa by the Strait of Corryvreckan, famous for its whirlpool.
Large herds of deer roam the high ground and here you can still see grouse, pheasants, woodcock and snipe. There are fine sandy beaches, safe boating and sea fishing.
