It is here that the River Shin meets the Kyle of Sutherland and nearby is the modern Carbisdale Castle, which actually sits in Ross-shire. Famous for its position to the scene of Montrose’s last battle in 1650, after which he fled before being betrayed and caught at Arvreck Castle near Inchnadamph.
