A Royal Burgh on the Firth of Forth with a 16th century Mercat Cross with carved armorial bearings surmounted by a unicorn added in 1688.
The Old Town House dates from 1770 and the church has an old font but only the tower remains from the original 15th century building.
In 1651 a battle was fought to the north in which Cromwell’s forces defeated the Royalist army led by a Maclean of Duart.
