Northwest from Inverey and beyond the Dee a path leads through Glen Lui and Glen Derry into the Cairngorms and under the slopes of Derry Cairngorm rising to 3,788 and further on is Beinn Mheadoin at 3,883ft which overlooks the beautiful and remote Loch Avon.

This path is known as the Lairig an Laoigh and gives access for long-distance walkers to Nethybridge on the Forest of Abernethy.

Another path leads westwards from Glen Lui through Glen Lui Beg giving access to Glen Dee and the Lairig Ghru.

Farther to the west along the valley of the Upper Dee in wilder scenery the path leads towards the southern Cairngorms beside the river which then turns northwards into Glen Dee.

From here the path is known as the Lairig Ghru, the most famous and popular of the walker’ passes in the Cairngorms and dominated to the west by Beinn Bhrotain rising to 3,797ft and on to the Devil’s Point at 3,303ft.
