Inn at Whitewell - Forest of Bowland
URPoint Details
Once a small manor house, the earliest parts of the Inn at Whitewell date back to the 1300's. At that time it was home to Walter Urswick, keeper of the King's Forest of Bowland where it nestles on the banks of the River Hodder, near Clitheroe.
With 26 superb bedrooms to choose from you are really spolit for choice as all the rooms are magnifcent.
It was later turned into a coaching inn and has been extended over the years to become the very excellent hostelry which it is today with a reputation for serving some of the finest food in the area under the ownership of Richard Bowman.
The building is shared with a wine merchant allowing guests to sample the produce in the bar or restaurant before buying and, conversely, the wine list has unusual breadth and depth.
Brimming with character, the seventeen en-suite bedrooms have been individually designed with antique furnishings, paintings and prints many have open peat fires while some overlook the river. Bathrooms feature beautifully restored authentic Victorian suites with canopied baths and showers with huge spray heads. One of the few concessions to the 21st century are the televisions and hi-fi's from Bang & Olufsen, Bose or Quad.
