URPoint Details

The village mentioned in the Domesday Book has a long history and excavations along the site of the new road have uncovered a number of interesting finds including a complete skeleton of Roman times.

Axe-heads and other signs of ancient occupation have been found in the area but the name of the village may have come from Saxon times as the lord of the manor at that time in AD850 was a man called Ingulf.

Almost completely hidden by tall trees and surrounding houses, stands the parish church of St Michael and All Angels church has traces of Norman architecture but most of the building dates from the 13th century. There are some fine 19th century stained glass windows and pews.
