Once, a very busy fishing village in the 19th century Ilfracombe is now a very popular North Devon holiday resort. The town is built on steep terraces which rise from the shore of shingle and sand.
The chapel to St Nicholas the patron saint of sailors stands on a rock at the harbour entrance.
The light has shone from the tiny chapel since the Middle Ages.
