This little village has had an interesting history with Ancient Britons, Romans and Saxons all have lived here at one time. There have been many relics of the prehistoric times found here among those is the ‘Icklingham Horde’ of pagan bronzes.
The Normans introduced warrening as a way of utilising the breckland and the rabbit has since become the star of folklore.
A white rabbit is often seen at dusk walking a certain path as the familiar of a witch. Sight of her has caused horses to bolt and men to die and the well worn path she uses to cross a track and pass into a field through a gap in the hedge which cannot be closed covers the site of an early cemetery.
The church of St James in the centre of this little village and was mentioned in the Domesday Book.
