The 16 Victoria Square home was where Ian Fleming and his wife, Anne, lived up until his untimely death after a lengthy battle with heart complications at Canterbury Hospital in 1964.
Fleming's fame skyrocketed shortly after his death with the release of the movie Goldfinger, starring Sean Connery as Bond. While Fleming did not strictly write the James Bond novels here at Victoria Square (they were written on his annual forays to his Jamaican home, Goldeneye) Victoria Square was certainly where he entertained, researched, dreamed and conducted the business side of Bond.
At the time Fleming bought the home in 1953, leaving his home of many years at Carlysle Mansions in Chelsea, his first Bond novel, Casino Royale, was just beginning to be acknowledged. Fleming took great delight in the Victoria Square home which he proudly announced to friends was located between the Queen and Goring Hotels.
The Regency era home is around the corner from the rear high brick wall of Buckingham Palace, while Victoria Station is a two-minute walk away and it is close to Whitehall and St James\'s Park, where James Bond was also known to walk in contemplation.
