Hythe - Church of St Leonard

Oak Walk, Hythe CT21 5DN, England

URPoint Details

The church of St Leonard’s stands in a commanding position on the steep side of a hill.
The soaring 13th century chancel rises 13 steps above the nave of the original Norman church, it was built like this due to the lack of space.
The church has some fine mouldings, and the east window although modern is superb.

For those interested in the ghoulish there are 2000 human skull and 8000 thigh bones to be seen in the crypt. They date from between 1200 and 1400, and are similar to bones found in Spitalfields Market in London.
