Car park; shop and picnic area. Disabled parking about 20 yards from property space for disabled drivers can be reserved by telephoning in advance. Grounds and picnic area suitable for wheelchair visitors. Stairs inside the castle are spiral and there is a 15 inch step at the main door. Good herbaceous border with selection of highly scented bushes.
In 1582 the discontented Protestant nobles kidnapped King James VI of Scotland.
The splendid painted ceilings are especially noteworthy in this castle, once owned by the Ruthven family.
