Small, but imposing stone building was originally part of an extensive medieval hospital founded in the late 12th century by David, Earl of Huntingdon. It later became the Grammar School where Oliver Cromwell and Samuel Pepys attended school. The only public collection of Cromwellian memorabilia, with many portraits, documents and relics including a walking stick, powder flask and a hat believed to have been worn at the dissolution of Parliament in 1653 by him.
