URPoint Details

For centuries wool has been spun and woven and was a craft village on the Pennine Moors until the 18th century. Textile mills were built and they were fed by water from the River Colne.
The railway station was opened in 1847 and is a fine example of Victorian architecture.

There are several good Victorian buildings including the 1870s Market Hall, the church of St Peter dates from 1838 and the clock tower was completed in 1902.
