Small exhibition displays altars, inscriptions and models dogs allowed to certain areas on leads picnics welcome. Disabled parking 350m from entrance via loose gravel path and steep slope to drive nearer to the fort and museum, disabled visitors should ask permission from National trust Access to Fort and museum: very strong pushers required for wheelchairs - there are steep slopes, steps and rough grass, which can be slippery when wet. Inscribed stones, statues and altar stones to touch in museum.

Perched high on a ridge overlooking open moorland, this is the best-known part of the Wall. The fort covers five acres and the remains of many buildings, such as granaries, barrack blocks and gateways, can be seen. The Trust owns approx 5 miles of the Wall running west from Housesteads Fort (including the Fort itself) and 2,750 acres for farmland.
Access to the wall and the public rights of way from car parks at Housesteads, Steel Rigg and Cawfields Quarry.

Housesteads Fort is owned by the National Trust and maintained by English Heritage.

To the north of the Wall, which climbs over steep, craggy heights are some picturesque little lakes including Crag Lough.
