URPoint Details
A left turn leads through an avenue of lime trees to a street of white houses. A note in the parish register on 4th July, 1729 read: The foundation dug for the first house of the New Town’.
Originally the houses stood round the church, which stands in the park, when Robert Walpole had his grand Palladian hall built between 1722 and 1735, these houses were not a pleasant view for him, and they were pulled down, to be replaced by the houses now bordering the street.
