A hundred years ago this would have been very busy with wherries queuing at the lock and slowly quanting (using the quant or a punting pole) to sail up the river Bure to Aylsham or down river to Yarmouth heavily laden with farm produce, chalk, marl and local brewed beer. The river by the old lock keepers cottage is delightful and peaceful.
