Mentioned in the Domesday Book as ‘Horninga’ the name is from the Old English.
A small but beautiful village with interesting shops, cottages and houses and the thatched cottage right on the water offers tea in delightful gardens in the summer. Houses set in woodland have their own inlets from the river Bures.
The Ferry Inn is a great little pub.
St Benedict’s Church is mainly 13th and 14th century. The church has some very interesting features one being the Priest's doorway which is 13th century and there are some lovely carved pews.
