Sir Christopher Hatton, a Lord Chancellor under Queen Elizabeth I, was born here in 1540. Hatton Gardens in London is named after him.
Historically famous for the event which took place in 1646, when King Charles I was taken from the Elizabethan Holdenby House by Cornet Joyce of the Parliamentary army and removed to London.
