URPoint Details
An ornamental lake in the policies of The Hirsel in the Scottish Borders, a mile (1.5 km) west northwest of Coldstream and a similar distance north of the River Tweed and the English Border.
Created in 1786 as part of a designed landscape, it now forms part of the Hirsel Country Park. A hide is provided for bird-watching, with heron, little grebe, moorhen, mute swan, pochard, shoveler and tufted duck present in summer, together with goosander, water rails and whooper swans in winter.
