URPoint Details
The highest village in the county at 850ft is mainly 19th century, and the spectacular Devil’s Punch Bowl is a deep valley worn in sandstone.
In 1786 an unknown sailor was murdered here and the murderers were hanged by the side of the Punch Bowl, where a stone tells of the tale.
At the nearby Royal Huts Hotel are the chains used to hang the murderers, and there are some paintings which tell the story of the crime.
