The hall dates from 1608 and was garrisoned for the King, sustaining many fierce assaults before surrendering in 1646.
There are some fine almshouses founded in 1694.
The church is partly Norman, has a fine tower damaged during the Civil War in 1645. The remains of the churchyard cross incorporates a sundial.
