Heysham - St Peter's Church

St Peter's Church dates back to 7th century. People from all over the area choose St Peter's for weddings and christenings, tempted by the character of the ancient church, its charming grounds and stunning setting overlooking the bay. Through the church grounds you reach the ruins of St Patrick's Chapel, thought to have been a private place of worship for a medieval landowner of the area and evidence of one of the earliest Christian communities in northern England. Here you will also find a unique feature in a set of stone 'coffins' which provide an eerie reminder of the religious practices of the past.
