The 15th century moated castle provides a dramatic and imposing impression as it breaks into view ‘a spectacle that for sheer breathtaking glamour is not to be surpassed in Europe’. These are comments concerning the Castle's magnificent exterior. The 20th century interior is not open to the public, but the beautiful Elizabethan gardens and extensive parkland, with nature trails through the wood, are there to enjoy. The new ‘hands-on’ Science Centre is open in the Equatorial Telescope Buildings of the former Royal Greenwich Observatory, where the historic telescope are on view.
Herstmonceux Castle operates as the UK campus of Queen’s University (Canada).
