The village is listed in the Domesday Book as ‘Henlaie’ with two churches and a tithe barn
A very pretty little village with a little shop and a couple of lovely thatch cottages.
The Church of St Peter dates back to 1300 and stands in the centre of the village, where five roads lead off in different directions.
In 1848 a vestry was added to the church as a schoolroom where the playground was the graveyard until the present school was built in 1875.
