URPoint Details
The more westerly of the two very Hemingford villages, which flank the south bank of the Great Ouse between Huntingdon and St Ives.
Hemingford Abbots is a pretty village and has grown as a residential centre in recent years. Its modern amenities include a spacious village hall and a recreation ground. Newer houses now merge quite successfully, with older cottages and all enjoy rather lovely scenery.
The 13th century church of St Margaret is a delightful church on the banks of the river. The spire is a riverside landmark and there is a very interesting Roman-Britain stone coffin.
‘The Axe and Compass’ is a pretty 15th century thatched pub with a wealth of beams and situated on a corner site in the village.
