Hellfire Corner, Secret Wartime Tunnels (EH) - Dover

It was from this amazing complex of tunnels and wartime operational rooms, concealed in the white cliffs beneath Dover Castle, that the evacuation in 1940 of troops from Dunkirk was masterminded. Originally excavated to house cannons to counter the threat of invasion by Napoleon, the tunnels have only recently been removed from the top secret list.
