Hedingham Castle - Castle Hedingham

Open Easter to end of October 10am to 5pm daily.

Magnificent castle, built in 1140 by Aubrey de Vere, was home to the family for over 550 years. The castle is of great historical interest and is still owned by a descendant of the Earls of Oxford.

The banqueting Hall has wonderful stone work and the arch supporting the ceiling is a true work of art and a tribute to the Norman masons. Two of the four round towers still remain and the walls are 12ft thick and 100ft high. The beautiful Tudor bridge spanning the moat was built in 1496. The Garrison Chamber home to soldiers now displays banners to those who played such an important role in the history of the castle.
