The village is still an agricultural area, and was recorded as such in the Domesday Book. There are some delightful Elizabethan houses, thatched cottages and buildings in the village.
The Parish Church dates from 1150 and has a 16th century brass of Anthony Newdegate dressed as a Tudor knight. The lych gate of the church has Victorian inscriptions which are also found on the water pump, and lodge house is at the entrance to Haynes Park House. The lodge has an unusual finial gable and sunflower weathervane.
