Hartwell - Church of the Assumption
off Oxford Rd, A418, Hartwell HP17 8NR, England
URPoint Details
Henry Keene designed this important early example of the Gothick style in 1754-6 for Sir Thomas Lee, on a mound in the grounds of Hartwell House. It is octagonal with east and west towers and is thought to echo the chapter house at York Minster. Although thieves, vandals and the elements have done their worst to the interior, its restored shell is still a romantic, although melancholy sight in the park.
