Hartest has existed as a village for more than one thousand years, and on the village green stands a large glacial stone said to have been dragged there in the 1700's by a sledge drawn by 45 horses.
The village sign shows a hart (stag) against the background of Hartest Stone.
Lovely pub called the Crown in this very pretty little village, beautiful village green and really old houses, very picturesque.
The church of All Saints was mentioned in the Domesday Book.
