URPoint Details
Harringworth Viaduct took only three years to build this gigantic structure to carry the Kettering to Oakham railway line. Begun in 1875, its 82 classically proportioned arches span three quarters of a mile long across the wetlands of the Welland Valley. It has been calculated that its 20 million red and blue locally made bricks, if placed to make a pathway 5'3’ wide would stretch the 200 miles from London to York! The complete structure can best be appreciated by viewing from Gretton road.
