A pretty little village overlooking the sea and cliffs and was mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086 by King Harold.
The 14th century church of St Mary's is built of flint and septaria, with the battlements renewed in brick. The church stands on high ground, probably originally nearer an earlier village.
