Hamwood House - Dunboyne

Hamwood House - Dunboyne

Dunboyne , Ireland

URPoint Details

Toilets; parking; guided tours.

This Palladian style house was built in 1779 for Charles Hamilton, later land agent for the Dukes of Leinster.

The timber used for building came from Russia, and is one of the first houses in Ireland to be roofed with dry slating. The house contains some fine 18th century furniture, mirrors and pictures of historical interest.

Hamwood was also the home of Eva and Letitia Hamilton, artists of the 1920-60 period and now home of their nephew.

The garden is probably the least known but is certainly fascinating.
