URPoint Details
This village stands in downland country on the Newbury to Goring road which follows the line of an ancient track that the Romans also later used.
Earthworks in the area are also a reminder that the Newbury to Didcot branch of the Great Western Railway, with a station in the village, once passed this way.
In the centre of the village is the spacious church which shows the work of many periods the tower is of the 12th century, the chancel is Early English and the nave roof is of 1635. Of interest is a sculpture of a knight on the back of a prancing horse - a rather fine carving of the 13th century but its origin is not known.
