Guy Fawkes 13 June 1570 born in Stonegate.
He attempted to blow up Parliament on November 5, later to become Guy Fawkes Day and with tradition a bonfire was lit with an effigy of him. His sentence was to be hanged on 31 January 1606 at Westminster, but escaped the noose and fell to his death with a broken neck.
The penalty for treason was to be hanged, drawn and quartered.
Immediately before his execution on 31 January 1606, Fawkes fell from the scaffold where he was to be hanged and broke his neck,
