URPoint Details

County Town of Surrey nestles in a gap in the North Downs, carved by the tranquil and picturesque River Wey, which flows through the town. Situated midway between London and Portsmouth, this bustling shopping, commercial, educational and cultural centre is easily accessible both by road and rail and is only a short distance from Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

The modern and magnificent Cathedral of the Holy Spirit towers over the town, dominating the skyline.

The parks and gardens in Guildford are delightful and few displays can rival the castle grounds in spring and summer.

Guildford may have pre-Saxon settlements here, but records are first mentioned in the time of Alfred the Great.
The original Anglo-Saxon fortification was built on a partly artificial mound, then the Normans built a keep on this mound and eventually became a castle.

Holy Trinity Church was rebuilt in the 18th century, after the collapse of the tower. Only the chantry and a number of tombs remains of the original building.
