URPoint Details

Three villages now make up this beautiful little village pronounced ‘Grunsburo’ on the river Lark. They are Grundisburgh, Burgh and Culpho and all have their own little churches.
The 14th century church St Mary's at Grundisburgh is built on older foundations.
St Botolph’s at Culpho is a small Saxon church and Burgh’s is built over a chapel where St Botolph’s bones were temporarily sheltered from the marauding Vikings.

The village store ‘The Old Forge’ supplies almost everything and the ‘Dog Inn’ is the only remaining pub in the village.

The village sign swings on the green with the arms of the Cranworths – three golden leopards’ heads on a black ground.

Thomas A’Wall, a rich member of Salters Company, not only extended his father’s house, Basts in the 15th century, but paid for the Lady Chapel to be built at St Mary’s. His merchant’s mark and the badges of the City of London and the Salters’ Company are carved on its crenellations. The church is floodlit every night.
