A village situated on a 200ft high ridge offers spectacular views to the north is the county border, Lincolnshire and Humberside and to the northwest towards South Yorkshire and to the southeast over the River Trent valley and to the honey-coloured towers of Lincoln Cathedral 20 miles away.
The Early English Church is surrounded by fine red-brick houses.
Below the village, the Chesterfield Canal follows the land on its way to join the River Trent.
