The statue of Greyfriars Bobby, the Skye terrier who, after his master’s death in 1858, watched over his grace in the nearby Greyfriars churchyard for 14 years.
His headstone reads: Greyfriars Bobby – died 14th January 1872 – aged 16 years – Let his loyalty and devotion be a lesson to us all.
