Just north of the Aylesbury to Bicester road, Grendon Underwood straggles for almost two miles towards Edgcott and Grendon Hall with the River Ray running through the town.
Not far from the church is the 16th century timber framed Shakespeare Farm. This was formerly an inn where Shakespeare is said to have stayed, en-route from London to Stratford and here thought up that night the idea for 'Midsummer Night's Dreams'.
