URPoint Details
There is a plaque in St Nicholas Church commemorating the evil deeds performed by Thomas Vaughan, who exhumed at least 10 bodies from the graveyard in 1827.
They were ‘sent by rail’ to London where they were used in hospitals by students. The families of other burials would take turns to watch that nobody took their loved ones. This is where the ‘Wake’ came from as loved ones would sit for three days watching for ‘robbers’
