URPoint Details
This parish unites the former East and West Shefford parishes and the two villages that adjoin each other in the Lambourn valley. It is crossed by the Hungerford to Wantage road. East Shefford is the smaller of the two villages and was the site of a palace of a King of Mercia. West Shefford, on the other side of the main road, retains its 16th century manor house (as a farm) and has the only church in Berkshire to retain a round tower, almost certainly of Norman date. The church has other Norman features including a tub shaped font.
